I was blissfully unaware of the legislation going through the House and Senate back in my home country until last night when I tried to go onto Wikipedia to try and teach myself cricket.
You see. It’s cricket season here in Australia and while I tried to learn about it last year and failed miserably, I’m determined to not suffer the same fate this season.
So I went to Wikipedia because it is more patient than Australians who have attempted to explain the game to me, but it was blacked out. As was The Oatmeal, but I only knew about that because goats pop up all over my life.
Naturally, as I’m incredibly removed these days from what’s going on aside from the occasional update on the presidential primaries, I had no idea what SOPA and PIPA was. After a few reads of articles circulating the internet, I realized I still wasn’t getting it.
Give me a break. It was 12:30 a.m.
So I went to the only other place on the internet I get useful and accurate information. The Khan Academy YouTube page. Sal knows all, yo.
I’m feeling informed and I agree with Sal’s in that this is a particularly draconian and creepy piece of legislature.
SOPA. You gots to go.
